Today we decided to visit the Kathu waterfall. This month we moved from Chalong to Kathu to be closer to school so we have a whole new area to discover.
If you have kids you know they are happy to be exploring a new place. One of the highlights for them was discovering red crabs on the path and wondering how they could be living so far from the sea. Now they know about fresh water crabs. Well, it was our National Geographic moment and a good break from climbing the 400 or so steps to the waterfall. The walk is nice and shady, but still hot as its all an uphill climb. There are a few different levels of the waterfall and places you can jump in for a swim.
Don’t have high expectations of the actual waterfall. Being from New Zealand I guess I have seen so many huge and dramatic falls. But still nice for the jungle walk and sound of the water flowing and cicadas singing. Customers ask for waterfall photos sometimes. There are not actually that many in Phuket and they are either a huge hike and then hard to get close to or very crowed so not really good for photo shoots.
There’s some little shops and restaurants selling food and drink. We stopped for a mango shake and water. Worth a visit if you have some time in the early morning or late afternoon ~ photography by Gina.
